The Federal Government's new rules for GP referrals to mental health treatment plans (MHTPs) under Better Access, effective 1 November 2025, are a major concern. These changes are likely to restrict access and squeeze mental health services.Requiring referrals from a ‘usual GP’ or MyMedicare-registered practice is impractical, especially for vulnerable groups like young people and rural residents. This will limit patient choice and add barriers to accessing care. Removing specific item numbers for GP reviews might reduce delays but fails to address core issues. These decisions prioritize financial savings over patient needs. They are short-sighted and detrimental to effective care.https://lnkd.in/gUrcBxaN
