But for more than 20 years, the House of Beauty at Park Avenue and Sixth Street was one of the most popular places for a woman to get her hair styled and catch up on the latest gossip. "It was where everybody went at that time," said Bonnie Bray, a daughter-in-law.

"She made people feel good. You had a good time when you were there." Gilliam died Monday of congestive heart failure. She was 78. Last Saturday, she and her husband, Leroy Gilliam, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with dozens of family members. Born and raised in the Orlando area, Gilliam graduated from Ocoee High School in the late 1930s.

407-880-1007 TRUMBO, MD, ROBERT BENSON Dr. Robert Benson Trumbo, a prominent physician in Central Florida for more than four decades, died Saturday at home with his family at his side. Dr. Trumbo was a life long resident of Orlando. He was born in Springfield, Ohio on April 25th, 1921 and moved with his family to Orlando in 1925.

He attended local schools and graduated from Orlando Senior High School in 1939. He entered the University of Florida in the fall of 1939. In the summer of 1940, Dr. Trumbo enrolled in a summer program at Tulane University and was awarded the first prize in Chemistry, an honor that he cherished. In his junior year of college, Dr.

Trumbo transferred to Emory University in Atlanta. However, he left school a year later to enlist in the armed forces. From July of 1943 until March of 1946, he served as a pharmacist's mate in the United States Navy in the Pacific Theater of operations, and participated in 5 invasions in the Pacific. He then resumed his college career, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1947 and a Masters of Science degree in 1948 from Emory University, where he was President of the graduate school student body. In December of 1947, he married the former Carolyn Nell Rich of Orlando.

Dr. Trumbo continued his education at Emory University, receiving his medical degree in 1952 and serving his internship at Emory University Hospital and Grady Memorial Hospital. From 1953-58, he was a resident in general and thoracic surgery at Duke University Hospital, where he was chief resident from 1957-58. While at Duke, Dr. Trumbo was an American Cancer Society Surgical Fellow in Surgery.

In 1958, Dr. Trumbo returned to Orlando to enter private practice. Drs. Davis, Trumbo, and Weeks practiced together for thirty years and were among the first board certified general and thoracic surgeons to come to Orlando. After leaving private practice in 1986, Dr.

Trumbo was Executive Medical Director for the State Department of Corrections. In 1989, he returned to patient care, serving as Senior Physician for the Osceola County Health Department until his retirement in August of 1999. During his career, Dr. Trumbo was an active member and officer of a number of professional organizations and committees. From 1972-78, he served on the Board of Directors of the Florida Society of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeons and was President of that organization in 1977.

From 1979-80, he was Chief of Staff of Orlando Regional Medical Center. In that same year, he was President of the Orange County Medical Society. He was a frequent delegate to the Florida Medical Association and a member of the American College of Surgeons, the Southern Thoracic Surgical Association, and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons. Dr. Trumbo was active in community service and social organizations as well.

He was a past president of the Central Florida Heart Association and the Central Florida Drug Abuse Council. He was a past director of the Young Life Association and for several years was a team physician for Edgewater High School. He was a proud member of the University Club of Orlando, serving as its president in 1969. He was a member of the Country Club of Orlando and Orlando's "Old Timer's Club." He loved his family, his friends, his community, and his profession. The family wishes to thank the many whom expressed their love and concern during the final months of Dr.
