A young footballers dream is clear; to become a professional footballer with all the fame and trappings that come with it.But is this dream merely a fantasy, or is it achievable through consistent hard work and dedication? The truth lies somewhere in between. Yes, becoming a professional footballer requires an undeniable element of luck.Injuries are a constant threat and can derail even the most talented careers.Being in the right place at the right time can open doors or having a manager that trusts young players.Additionally, good behaviour and a professional attitude are crucial. No one wants a talented hothead in the team. However, focusing solely on luck paints an incomplete picture. The dream to become a professional footballer for a young player starts much earlier, with a strong foundation built during the early years.#dream

For those of you don’t know me… my passion is having girls play team sports but specifically rugby. Why rugby? I started playing at 39 - yes very late to pick this sport but what I learned while playing is why I love this sport and the reason my goal is to continue to grow the game 1) only way to succeed is to work as a team. Everyone has a job and each players come in all shapes and sizes based on position - learn your role and execute 2) conflict resolution off and on the pitch. Let’s be honest we can’t always get along but we learn how to work through it together - working through conflict together will lead to improved trust - trust is key on the pitch. 3) Not being afraid to try / fail. I get it we all want to look good at all we do …all the time but this isn’t real. 4) Learning how to make decisions in organized chaos - the play you want to run doesn’t always work like in practice. You learn to adapt given what’s in front of you 5) Becoming comfortable and confident with your body. 6) Make lifelong friends through putting your heart and soul on the line every time you play. If any of this reasonates with you and you have a kid at home that wants to try something new please reach out! We play in the beaches area of Toronto!!No experience is required … just a willingness to try. That’s it 🏉Ps - when our players enter the workplace they will have learned many of the skills that school doesn’t always teach.

Great article about the Alumni programme Manchester United are offering former players. This involves training sessions and workshops aimed at keeping them fit as they attempt to secure new contracts, and also offering ideas for potential career paths after retiring from playing. In a career industry where approximately only 1% of academy players have a career as professional players it is a great step in the right direction to help with their mental health and wellbeing. https://lnkd.in/eSdTr-_s #makingadifference #mentalhealthmatters #careeroptions #employersupport
