I am doing a pulled pork lunch for 30 coworkers - mostly women. Any suggestions on how much pork shoulder I should buy? Thanks.

I just did six butts (60 lbs for 110 men and women).
You would be safe with 15 lbs, but what go-with's will you be having?

the usual approximate is 1/4lb per person I usually go that route and add a little extra at the end for take home and doggie bags. so 30 x .25 = 7.5 lbs cooked weight, with pork it usually yields 50 to 60 percent cooked weight so I would make at least 16lbs uncooked to get what you need. I would probably personally do 20lbs uncooked to be sure and have a little left over.

I agree. I was going to say 2 large butts but having to extra never hurts. A lot depends on the sides. This will determine if they have one or two Sammie's. I have done one butt cooks for 20 women with lots of sides and had meat left over.

I would bump the 1/4 lb/ person up some if they are self serving. Eyes are always bigger than stomachs!

easy calculation formula for pulled pork:
10 oz. pre-cooked weight per person X number of people, divided by 16 to get pounds of pre-cooked weight.
For 30 people - 10 X 30 = 300 / 16 = 18.75 lbs. precooked weight. This will usually allow for plenty of cooking loss and provide a little cushion as necessary.

1/2# uncooked per person if doing sandwiches, 3/4# uncooked if not doing sandwiched with lots of sides, 1# uncooked per person if not doing sandwiches and not a lot of sides

If I were doing sliders, would you roughly figure half that amount per person (or 5 oz. pre-cooked weight)?

Yes, that's what I would figure for sliders. Cooking PP sliders for my niece's wedding in May for 200-250. Waiting on a firm head count and how many they want me to cook and what else they want to serve. Should be an interesting cook.

My first thoughts were two 8# butts (raw)..........and after reading other answers here, I'd say that's dead on. Cook to 200 I.T. - booyah!
