For the cake:

  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup light brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 15 ounce can fruit co*cktail in heavy syrup, not drained
  • ¼ cup shredded coconut
