Floyd County Man Charged With Kidnapping After Violent Assault On Woman

Floyd County Police say that a forty-year-old man remains in jail after he was charged with kidnapping following a violent domestic dispute on Wednesday of this week. Ronnie Antonio Martin is accused of assaulting the mother of his eleven-year-old son and then leaving with the boy. The incident happened in the Black’s Bluff Road area. Police say that Martin choked the woman and threw her on the ground, causing her to lose consciousness. Martin then “punched the family dog”, according to police before waking his son and forcing the child to go with him. Martin was apprehended and charged with Aggravated Assault, Kidnapping, Cruelty to Children 1st Degree (2 counts), Cruelty to Children 3rd Degree (2 counts), Theft by Taking, Battery and Cruelty to Animals.

Song Farmers of Summerville Not Meeting This Month

The Song Farmers of Summerville will not be meeting on Saturday due to sickness. They invite everyone out to Dowdy Park in downtown Summerville next month. They will be back July 13, 2024 to resume their picking and singing sessions. Anyone is invited to bring an instrument and join in and audience participation is welcomed.

Chattooga BOE Approves Personnel Changes

The Chattooga Board of Education held a called meeting on Thursday evening to approve personnel changes as Michelle Heile moves into the roll of county school superintendent. Heile was appointed school superintendent by the board last month and will take over at the end of this month. Current School Superintendent Jared Hosmer will be retiring at the end of the month with his retirement date set as June 30th.

River Fest Tomorrow In Summerville

Tomorrow, GP Federal Credit Union is sponsoring the Chattooga River Group’s third-annual Chattooga River Fest. Each year the festival that celebrates the Chattooga River in Northwest Georgia moves to a different municipality in Chattooga County on the river. The first year, it was held in Lyerly, last year in Trion and this year in Summerville. There are a host of events planned for River Fest which is also being combined with fun at Dowdy Park, sponsored by Summerville Main Street. Then on Friday night, a Jimmy Buffet tribute band will be playing for a downtown block party. The river and competitive events and the block party require tickets but events at the park are FREE. Summerville Reminds Voters Of Upcoming Runoff Election

The City of Summerville will hold a Special Election Runoff on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, to fill the unexpired term of the City of Summerville Council Seat #1. The seat was held by former City Councilman David Ford, who passed away earlier this year. The runoff election will be between the two top vote-getters in the May Primary Election – Simone Adams and Pam Albert.
