Thoughts on having a shower/sprinkle? This baby is a boy, our first was a girl and we had a shower for her 3 years ago. I can’t decide if it’s cringey/unnecessary but we could use new things

@agb0320,
I agree with this. Save the money you’d spend on a shower and put it towards the new things you need. If someone wants to buy something for you, I’m sure they’ll ask what you need or give a gift card.

I think it’s perfectly acceptable to have a sprinkle for your second - mostly for the diapers and wipes lol. My son will be 4 when this new baby comes and although I have all the big items and necessities, diapers and wipes are expensive and I would love to have a diaper party. Since we’re having summer babies I thought it would be fun to have a baby-que with some yard games and stuff. My sister asked me if she could throw a sprinkle and I told her all I want are diapers. I don’t think I personally would throw myself a sprinkle/shower, but definitely won’t shut down someone else offering!

@cassdocarmo,
this is my 4th and we are doing just this. A diaper raffle babyq. It’s gonna be so much fun! Baby, Burgers and Beer will be the theme.

I think it depends on the gifters you have in your life. If you’ve got a lot of people who you know will want to gift you something, then sure it makes sense. I don’t love the idea of it, but I also dont love the idea of a baby shower to begin with

I think only if you have someone wanting to host it for you. We had a sprinkle with my second and it was definitely helpful, but only made not “needy” because I had a close friend having her second at the same time so we both asked to throw each other a sprinkle!

the responses to this be based on region and friend circle. Where I live it’s common for all baby’s to be celebrated. We don’t see it as a gift grab or greedy as I’ve seen many ppl call it. I say celebrate your baby girl and whoever doesn’t like it doesn’t have to come.

parents should be buying what they need and not relying on others. a baby shower is a celebration for a new mom.
ive seen people have multiple showers, and the 2nd usually isn't attended as much. you can always do a sprinkle and as a party, but I still recommend buying what you need yourself.

I’m going to have a little sprinkle for this pregnancy..had one about 3 years ago for our first girl, having another girl but there are some things , even if it’s just diapers and wipes that can be gifted…I think every baby should be celebrated no matter what…do what you want! It’s your baby

I always thought it was weird that people wouldn't have a shower for each baby. I, personally, don't think there's anything wrong with it. While you are usually asking for gifts, you're not asking people to provide everything for your baby. its a celebration for you and the baby, and not just for the first baby. that's my opinion anyway. have a party. celebrate. if people don't like it, they don't habe to come, but I feel like more people do than don't.

I personally am against them. However, if someone is offering to throw you one, it’s not as tacky. If you’re going to throw one for yourself then definitely not!

My sister and mom are adamant on throwing one for me this time around (baby #2). I’m not asking for gifts and asking people to bring a book for the baby if they want to bring something. I figure it’s a way to celebrate the new baby but trying to keep it as gift and obligation free as possible. To me, baby showers are for first time moms.
