In the last couple of days Twickenham Stadium was not just the home of England’s rugby, but also a stage for marketing connections. At the #ConnectCMO Event, I had the pleasure to meet some fantastic B2B marketers and have the most interesting conversations. From the old sales and marketing alignment to convincing the board to invest in brand.It’s always a fascinating experience to learn about new B2B businesses who are powering our world, and especially to hear from the marketers driving change within them.A few nuggets that stood out to me were:1. Marketing has to be just as accountable as sales, with a shared responsibility to deliver on business growth2. Technology is advancing everyday, and businesses who don’t leverage it won’t be able to compete in increasingly crowded markets (hello #ai )3. Generating leads is not enough, high quality leads are the real deal, but also one of the biggest challenge most companies still face4. The value of brand is undeniably important, yet it can be hard for marketers to convince non-marketers and execs to invest in5. The best way for inhouse teams to work with agencies is focusing on partnerships and building trusting relationships (partners, not suppliers)I’ll close with my favourite quote from dinner, after talking about the growing chocolate factory machines business: the world needs more chocolate! 🍫 And some people still dare to say #b2b is boring 😊#b2bmarketing #leadgeneration #agency #event
